co-operatives addressing the climate threat... together

Schools

Why should we take part?

Schools use a great deal of electricity and in many cases unnecessarily. By cutting emissions you can save on costs but most importantly engage young minds on the issue of climate change and the responsible use of resources.

The planet that our young people will live in will be very different to that of today. We need to teach and inform them of the cost of inaction and why we should act to address the climate threat now. We need to inspire them to motivate people of all ages to protect the world that they will be left with.

What exactly do we have to do?

We want you to use your imagination and get your school involved in 10:10 and the other accompanying ACT! initiatives. We want you to lead the way in continuing to make co-operative schools the schools that make a difference to the most pressing issues that face the world. We believe climate change can only be addressed through co-operation.

By signing up to10:10 ACT!  you will be joining a network of co-operators and co-operatives all over the world united to make a difference on climate change.

Through Action Aid you will have access to resources such as the award winning film The Age Of Stupid and accompanying lesson plans. You will have access to numerous carbon reduction ideas through www.1010uk.org .

The reach and scope of 10:10 is endless and we hope with your backing we can turn 2010 into a year of action!

Why 10% in 2010?

10 % is a start and right now that is what we need.

It is catchy, catchy enough we believe to spark a global movement. If we are to reach the longer term targets set out by scientists and politicians we need to act now and a 10% reduction in 2010 will pave the way for these larger longer term reduction targets.
