co-operatives addressing the climate threat... together

Become a 10:10 Co-operator

Why Should You Take Part?

Would you deprive a child of food, or put them on a plane destined to crash?

We have the responsibility to rise to the challenge of our time and protect future generations from the dangerous effects of climate change. Politicians have so far failed to put in place the necessary legislation and laws to move us from a carbon intensive society. We want co-operators to join together under ACT! and 10:10 to remind politicians that the very people they represent are calling for change.

Many of us feel helpless as individuals in addressing climate threat. 10:10 will bring co-operative businesses, employees and members together all over Europe, not only to make significant reductions in emissions but also to give co-operatives a voice on the political stage. Sign up to 10:10 and be part of the ACT! community truly addressing the climate threat and together taking steps towards a zero carbon economy through co-operation.

Why 10% in 2010?

For decades global leaders have discussed the need for a global climate deal, while all the time emissions continue to rise and the global population continues to grow. It is acknowledged that in order to avoid the catastrophic level of two degrees warming, current emission trends must be reversed by 2020 to take into account a 20-year lag between emissions and their warming effects. For this reason we think that without an immediate reduction in the short term, long-term targets will fail. 10% is easily achievable and by acting now we can show that co-operators all over the world support more ambitious, fairer, binding targets on climate change.

Cutting 10% of your personal emissions is a bold target but it is achievable. Small changes such as leaving the car at home one day a week or taking one less flight can be the difference. Even small effor, when gathered together with fellow co-operators all over the globe will have a huge effect not just on reducing emissions but on persuading political leaders that they must agree to tackle climate change.
